Flamengo's basketball team dominated the first phase of the Liga das Américas. Competing for qualification in Panama, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) had already defeated Gimnasia Indalo (ARG) and Aguilas de Tunja (COL) in their first two matches, thus entering the game against Correcaminos (PAN) already qualified. But with first place in the group at stake, Flamengo achieved the result and secured the best record.

The Panamanian team offered considerable resistance, especially in the first quarter. With good three-point shooting, the home team opened up a 20-17 lead and, thanks to their initial performance, maintained the advantage at the end of the second quarter: 31-30.

From the third quarter onwards, the Pride of the Nation dominated the court. At the end of the third period, José Neto's team opened up a 51-44 lead. With Ramón in inspired form (20 points), Flamengo managed the advantage and ended up winning 68-61.
