Flamengo partners with Blumenau to launch team to compete in the CBB Brazilian Championship
The team will have five athletes from the Rubro-Negro youth academy and is already training in Santa Catarina.
By Isabela Abirached and Helena Petry - inThe Mais Querido announced, this Tuesday (02), a partnership with the APAB basketball team, from the city of Blumenau (SC), which will now be called Flamengo Blumenau, for the CBB Brazilian Championship. With the aim of further strengthening the youth categories, identifying and developing talent, the team will have athletes who played for both teams, in addition to new signings. On the red-black side, youngsters João Prado, Lucas Santos, Rafael Passoni, Cristhyã and Matheus Weber joined the team and began training in Santa Catarina under the command of coach André Germano.
Flamengo's Executive Director of Olympic Sports, Marcelo Vido, celebrated the partnership and thanked the organizations involved in the project.
"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo is committed to fostering its sports both in Rio de Janeiro and through partnerships that extend beyond the walls of Gávea. This partnership aims to further strengthen basketball in Blumenau, develop young athletes for state and national teams, and further strengthen the FlaBasquete project. I would like to extend a special thanks to the city of Blumenau and its mayor, Mario Hildebrandt, the Santa Catarina Basketball Federation and its president, Fábio Deschamps, and the APAB club and its president, Marcelo Georg, for their trust and support. The Blumenau region is a major hub for talent discovery, with the great Tiago Splitter as an example. We want, together with APAB, to identify and develop them," said Vido, who added that he emphasized the importance of other market sectors participating in the movement.
"We want industries and businesses to also be engaged in this project, which, in the near future, will seek the socio-sporting inclusion of young people from local communities and will include the opening of Flamengo franchises throughout the southern region of the country," he concluded.
The club's Vice President of Olympic Sports, Guilherme Kroll, highlighted the revenues that will come from the partnership, which are important for maintaining the department's financial health.
"This partnership represents the realization of a dream for all athletes, especially the more experienced ones like myself: to see Olympic sports become self-sustaining. And Flamengo has already achieved this. This season, we completely balanced our revenue and expenditure, and we believe that in 2021, we will even achieve better results than in previous years. We are entering the competitions with top teams, maintaining a balanced budget, without draining the club's coffers. All the funds raised from this partnership, with local sponsors, will be split between Blumenau and Flamengo. So, we have already secured a profitability unprecedented in the history of sports," he concluded.
