Flamengo begins its journey towards the sixth state title
The team faces Tijuca, at the opponent's gym, this Wednesday, at 20 pm, in the first game of the final

Flamengo begins its quest for its sixth state basketball championship this Wednesday (12/15). The team faces Tijuca at 8 p.m. at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium in the first match of the best-of-three series for the tournament final. Admission costs R$10. Fans wearing Flamengo shirts pay R$5. The second match, with Tijuca playing at home, takes place on Thursday (12/16) at the same location and time. If necessary, a third match will be scheduled.
Flamengo has two doubts for Tuesday's game: point guard Duda, who is recovering from a sprained right ankle suffered in the first stage of the South American League, and point guard Fred, who felt pain in his left adductor in the match against Pinheiros last Sunday. Both participated normally in training on Tuesday (14/12), but will still undergo some tests until moments before the match.
Flamengo has won the State Basketball Championship 35 times and is seeking its sixth consecutive title (they were champions from 2005 to 2009). Coach Paulo Chupeta, who has been in charge of the team since the historic victory over Telemar in 2005, is close to achieving a historic milestone.
"Winning six titles in a row while managing the same team isn't for everyone. It will be a very important record for me. But the most important thing will be to bring joy to almost 40 million fans. And the entire group is focused on this goal," said Chupeta.
The 2005 final, the first in a string of five consecutive titles, will serve as inspiration for the players. At the time, Telemar, which boasted big names like Ratto and Marc Brown, was the overwhelming favorite to win the title. Point guard Guto, who played in that year's final and scored the final two points in Flamengo's 93-90 victory, issued a warning:
"Only we (the players) believed we could win the title. Telemar was the favorite, just like we are now. But we have to remember that on the other side of the court will be a very good team, with some experienced players who will do everything they can to surprise us," said Guto.
Coach Chupeta also praised the opponent:
"It will be a very difficult game. Tijuca prepared a lot for this match and we have to be very careful with them," he said.
