Flamengo's basketball team began, this Wednesday (08.10), the series of three friendly matches against American teams for the NBA preseason. The Pride of the Nation entered the court at the US Airways Center, in Arizona, to face the team from Phoenix Suns.

Aware of the difficulties he would encounter, starting with difference between NBA and FIBA ​​rules, the red-black team, even leaving with the defeat, did not disappoint and played a match, on equal terms against the American team, winning two of the four quarters

Flamengo took the lead in the contest for possession. This advantage led to the team's first two points, scored by number 55, Jerome. With good steals and a quick counterattack, the Pride of the Nation quickly opened up a six-nil lead. This initial advantage was essential in keeping Flamengo ahead throughout the first quarter, closing at 26-21, with strong performances from the entire squad. 

With the same tactical organization and taking advantage of defensive rebounds, the "Mais Querido" (Team of the Year) continued to use counterattacks. Despite the initial score, the Phoenix Suns knew how to position themselves on the court and began to pressure the red-and-blacks' ball out, turning the score around and closing the first half with an 11-point lead, 54 to 43 for the Americans.

Unlike the beginning of the other quarters, Flamengo didn't perform as well at the start of the third. With the red-and-black team failing to make the final pass, the Phoenix Suns took advantage to extend their lead. The point difference didn't discourage the Pride of the Nation, who closed the gap again, but the third quarter ended with the Suns winning 71-66.

The end of the second half confirmed the advantage gained at the halfway point. The American team continued to set a strong pace, closing the match at 100 to 88. Flamengo takes the court again on Wednesday (15.10), against the Orlando Magic, at the Amway Center.
