Flamengo will face a life-or-death challenge this Tuesday (10.05), at 21 pm, against Franca, at the Pedrocão gym, in Franca (SP). Losing the best of five semifinals of the NBB (Novo Basquete Brasil) by 2 to 0, the Rubro-negro needs a victory in the third match to remain in the fight for the title of the competition. If Flamengo wins, the two teams will face each other again on Friday (13.05), at Tijuca Tênis Clube, in Rio de Janeiro, at 21 pm. A fifth game, if necessary, will be played on 15.05, at Pedrocão, in Franca.
"This game is a decisive one for Flamengo. We can't go onto the court thinking about the series score, but rather one game at a time. We need to be patient and play with intelligence and heart, without letting Franca control the match. The opponent is strong, has great shooters, and our defense will have to be strong," said captain Marcelinho, who scored 40 points in Sunday's game.
Franca had the upper hand in the first two matches of the series. In Rio de Janeiro, on May 06.05th, the São Paulo team won 73-69. Last Sunday (May 08.05th), in Franca, after leading the first three quarters, Flamengo let the victory slip away: 94-86.
"We played two good games, but we let the victory slip away at the end. I think we lacked a bit of concentration and also a stronger defense at the end. That's what we'll have to have in the next match. It's a do-or-die game for Flamengo, and we're going out there to win," reinforced power forward Jefferson.
Flamengo will still be without center Bábby. The player suffered a subluxation of his right sacroiliac joint in the first leg of the quarterfinals, on April 24.04, against Bauru. He has been out of action for Flamengo ever since.
