FlaBasquete is seeking its fifth consecutive Novo Basquete Brasil title. Champion of the last four editions, as well as the inaugural season of the national championship, and winner of several individual awards in the competition, Flamengo continues to fight for the top of the standings in the 2016/17 season. Tied with Brasília for first place, after 13 wins in 18 games, the Pride of the Nation not only stands out in the standings, but also in the NBB9 statistics. The Rubro-Negro dominates four fundamentals: average points per game (86.72), rebounds (41.33), free throws (18.06), and efficiency (101.44). Coach José Neto has a strong opinion on this feat.
"Analyzing statistics is a bit complex. They're a consequence of a set of factors that demonstrate the team's current performance. The best statistic, in my opinion, is the standings. Our focus is on enabling the team to achieve a better standings and, consequently, achieve some good numbers. We always want to be focused on the action: how the team plays, how to achieve good victories, and how to be consistent in a championship as competitive as the NBB. The numbers show that we're a good team offensively, so our focus is on maintaining this quality and improving defensively. We've already taken some steps toward this improvement, and it's already visible in the numbers. It's with this focus that we're working day after day," says Neto.
Olivinha is highlighted
One of FlaBasquete's most experienced players this season, center Olivinha has provided the nation with outstanding performances on the court, even achieving his 16th double-double in NBB history. The Gávea player's number 11,61 also leads the tournament in two key areas. Leading in rebounds, averaging 21,94 per game, and leading in efficiency, with XNUMX, Olivinha comments on his good form.
"I think that since the beginning of the season, when the team was formed, I felt that this year I would have a greater responsibility because our team had less rotation, especially in the paint, where we had three experienced players and the others were the youngsters who are there to help us. Unlike in the NBB8, where I had a few injuries, this year I'm 100% and I'm managing a good run of games, helping Flamengo achieve victories and stay at the top of the table. I'm very motivated, the coaching staff and the players are instilling a lot of confidence in me, and they know they can count on me in any situation. This makes me even more eager to keep working and giving my best every time I step on the court," emphasizes the center.
Regarding the nickname earned by the National Basketball League, Mr. Double-Double, the player celebrates.
"Earning this nickname is really cool. It's always been a characteristic of mine on the court to fight for every ball and fight for lots of rebounds. I often reach double digits in points and rebounds, and this new nickname comes from those situations. I'm very happy with everything that's happening and I hope everything continues to go well until the end of the season," concludes Olivinha.
FlaBasquete's next NBB9 match will be on February 14th at the Tijuca Tênis Clube Gymnasium against the Mogi team. The match is part of the twentieth round of the qualifying stage and will be broadcast on SporTV.
