Without mercy. That's how Flamengo's victory over Vasco da Gama this Saturday in the NBB (National Bar Association). Playing at São Januário, Mengão won 107-67, never slowing down even with the match already decided late in the match. It was the biggest derby victory in NBB history, with a forty-point margin. Marquinhos led all scorers with 25 points, followed by Nesbitt with 19 and four-for-four three-point shooting. Anderson Varejão grabbed 13 rebounds and scored 13 points, recording another double-double for Flamengo. The victory was undisputed, and the "Mais Querido" (Flamengo's Favorite) led in every quarter, demonstrating its superiority. With the result, the team maintained third place and won its ninth consecutive victory. 

Vasco had a better start, taking an 11-05 lead, forcing Gustavo De Conti to call a timeout. The conversation paid off, Flamengo lined up on the court, and within three minutes the score was in their favor, remaining that way until the end. Alberto Bial called a timeout, but it was no use, and the first quarter ended 23-17. The goal before halftime was to seal the game. And so it was. Undeterred, Flamengo pressed Vasco and tried to widen the gap. What ended at six points in the first quarter jumped to 17 by the end of the second, demonstrating that the game was already under control. 

The third quarter was fatal for Vasco. Within six minutes, Flamengo had already reached the 70-point mark, while the home team remained stuck at 36. And Mengão continued, relentlessly, until closing the half with a 30-point lead. The game was already over, but Flamengo wanted more. The best way to show respect to an opponent is to score points. That's what Gustavo's team did. The goal was to surpass 100, and they achieved it with three minutes remaining. Once that mark was surpassed, Gustavo brought the youngsters onto the court to finish the massacre. 

Flamengo still has two matches remaining in the qualifying phase. On the 24th, the team hosts Brasília. Two days later, they face Joinville. Both matches will be played at Arena Carioca 1.
