In a festive atmosphere, Flamengo basketball ended its participation in the qualifying phase of the State Championship with a 100% success rate. On Sunday morning (14.11/105), the team defeated Tijuca 68 x 115, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium, in a match that was part of the celebrations for the club's 15th anniversary, on the XNUMXth. As a prize, the Rubro-negro won the "Gente Brasil Trophy", offered by the NGO Gente Brasil, which does social work with children from Morro do Cavalão, in Niterói.
In search of its sixth championship, Flamengo will face Cabo Frio in the semifinals of the competition, with the date yet to be set. Tijuca and Macaé will fight for the other spot in the final. The red-and-black team returns to the court next Wednesday (17.11/XNUMX), against Cetaf/Vila Velha, in its debut in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil), in Vila Velha (ES).
Still without the injured Duda and Jefferson, Flamengo dominated the game from the start and was never threatened. This was a stark contrast to the first-round match, when Flamengo won by eight points (109-101). The scores for the four quarters were: 23-17; 55-36; 82-55; and 105-68. Marcelinho led all scorers with 32 points.
"The team has been growing with each game and getting more in tune. In the first half of the season, we were still adapting to the arrivals of Bábby, Guto, and Átila. Now, the team knows each other better," explained coach Paulo Chupeta.
Sunday's match featured children from the Cultura na Cesta social project, who performed during halftime. Prizes were distributed to the most enthusiastic fans, and at the end, Flamengo's vice president of Olympic sports, Cristina Callou, and the club's director of social responsibility, Mauro Chaves, presented the trophy to captain Marcelinho.
The game also had a festive feel for point guard Hélio, who turned 29. The player was surprised by the children of the Cultura na Cesta Social Project, who wore a T-shirt that read "Hélio 29 years old." During halftime, members of the project read a poem to the player, who couldn't hide his emotion.
"I played in Tijuca's youth academy and there's nothing better than celebrating my birthday here, especially with a victory," said the player.
Flamengo started with Marcelinho (32), Guto (10), Fred (20), Wagner (4) and Bábby (15). Entered: Teichmman (7), Átila (10), Hélio (6), Marcelão (-), Guilherme (-), Ricardo (-) and Luiz (1).
