Flamengo and Pinheiros faced each other on Saturday night (January 26.01th) in the 17th round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). The competition's two best offenses faced a test of fire, where a victory for the São Paulo team would have ended the Mais Querido's unbeaten run, halting a spectacular streak of 15 consecutive victories. But the Rubro-Negro, playing at home in the Tijuca gymnasium, knew how to impose its rhythm of play from the start and left the court victorious by a score of 102 x 85.

Flamengo took the court with Caio, Olivinha, Marquinhos, Kojo, and Benite. It was Caio who opened the scoring after 30 seconds with a two-pointer. As usual, Flamengo set a strong pace early in the match and quickly opened up a 10-point lead.
Kojo takes full advantage of Flamengo's attacking opportunities and, with both teams studying each other closely, the first quarter comes to an end: 28 x 18 for the home team.
Second bedroom
The second quarter starts more evenly, with the deficit dropping to four points. Duda replaces Benite, and Feliz replaces Caio. Minutes later, Benite returns to the court in place of Olivinha.
The fans, who turned out in droves at the Tijuca gym, kept pushing the team relentlessly. Flamengo opened up a 10-point lead again. Midway through the second quarter, the Flamengo's strong defense forced Pinheiros to push the paint less, taking more chances on three-pointers.
Late in the second half, Flamengo suffered a scare: their opponent scored three consecutive baskets, closing the gap on the scoreboard: 38-35. Caio returned to the court in place of Feliz. In a spectacular counterattack, Marquinhos sent a pass to Olivinha, who made no mistake and scored two more for Flamengo: 42-35.
Pinheiros scores a three-pointer, but Mengão retaliates with a well-placed three-pointer from Benite. At this point, the match is even. Flamengo's coach, José Neto, calls a timeout with just four seconds remaining. Flamengo ends the second quarter with a 46-39 lead.
Third room
Flamengo goes on the attack. Olivinha is fouled and converts the free throws. On the court, Flamengo plays the same lineup that started the match: Caio, Olivinha, Marquinhos, Kojo, and Benite.
Flamengo launched its attack at a fury, and Caio, after receiving a precise pass from Kojo, scored two more points. Benite then scored a three-pointer. Halfway through the third quarter, the score was already 20 points. With one minute and five seconds remaining, Flamengo maintained its lead: 65-47. Bruno and Gege entered the court in place of Kojo and Olivinha. Marquinhos then hit the rim, and Caio took advantage on the rebound and scored two more points: 70-55. At the end of the third quarter, to the delight of the fans, Marquinhos added two more points with a beautiful dunk: Flamengo 74-59 Pinheiros.
Last room
In the final quarter, Pinheiros closes in on the scoreboard and closes the gap to 10 points: 85-75. Neto senses the crucial moment in the match and calls a timeout. And the conversation pays off. Back on the court, the more attentive Flamengo defense makes it difficult for the opposing team to attack. Flamengo increases its alertness and strong attacking moves, and the lead naturally widens in the final quarter, which ends with a happy ending for the 2.347 fans present at the Tijucan gymnasium—in fact, the 16th happy ending for Flamengo this NBB season: 102-85.
Coach José Neto highlighted Flamengo's stance as being crucial to the victories the team has achieved so far in the NBB.
"It doesn't matter if there are two seconds left and we're ahead by 50 points, we play the same way from start to finish. The consistency and determination of everyone on the team, the commitment to the work, without ever underestimating the opponent, is what makes us do well," he said. "The fans also motivate us a lot," he added.
Marquinhos and Olivinha both posted double-doubles, and Olivinha was the game's top scorer with 23 points. To date, Flamengo and Pinheiros have faced each other 11 times in the NBB, with Flamengo winning seven times and Pinheiros winning four.
Rubro-Negro's next opponent is Uberlândia, Monday (28.01), at 20 pm, at the opponent's home, in a postponed match from the 5th round.
