Flamengo's unbeaten streak in the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) was broken on Sunday afternoon (12.12/90). In a thrilling match, the team lost to Pinheiros 88-30 at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium. It was Flamengo's first loss in five games in the competition. Marcelinho led all scorers with XNUMX points. After a poor first half, the team came from behind in the second half and narrowly missed out on winning the game.

Now, Flamengo turns its attention to the State Championship final against Tijuca. The first game will be next Wednesday (December 15.12), at 20 p.m., at the Tijuca Tênis Clube. The following day, the teams will face each other again, at the same location and time. The date of the third game, if necessary, is still to be determined.

Still without point guard Duda, who is recovering from a sprained right ankle, Flamengo started the match with defensive issues. This caused the Red-Black team to trail throughout the first half. In the first quarter, the lead reached 10 points (18-28) and ended with a 12-point deficit to Pinheiros: 20-32. In the second quarter, the lead widened even further to 26-48, and Flamengo went into halftime trailing 34-50.

In the third quarter, Flamengo performed better, scoring 17 points to their opponent's 16. But it wasn't enough to erase the 51-66 lead. In the final quarter, Flamengo played their best basketball and gradually closed the gap. Led by Marcelinho and Jefferson, the team closed the gap to 75-77. However, they missed a few counterattacks, and Pinheiros held on to the lead. With 11 seconds remaining, Flamengo had possession and a chance to tie the game and send the game to overtime, but Helio slipped, and the São Paulo team ended up winning 90-88.

"The court was very slippery because of the sweat. It was a shame, but now it's time to lift our heads and learn from the defeat," explained Helio.

"We were lacking defensively in the first half, and Pinheiros, who have a very good team, took advantage of that. In the second half, we played very well and came very close to winning, but unfortunately it didn't happen," explained center Bábby.

Flamengo started with Marcelinho (30), Guto (9), Fred (4), Teichmann (9) and Bábby (8). Entered: Átila (3), Jefferson (15), Helio (6), Wagner (4).
