The night didn't end as Flamengo had hoped. The long-awaited second world championship never came to the Pride of the Nation. This Sunday, at Arena Carioca 1, the Rubro-Negro were defeated by the Greek team AEK 86-70 and finished as runners-up in the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup. In the opening game, San Loreno defeated the Austin Spurs 77-59 and took third place. 

Flamengo failed to establish its style of play against AEK. The passing and infiltration that worked so well against Austin Spurs failed to produce the desired effect against the Greeks' tight marking of Franco Balbi and Anderson Varejão. The foreign team held the lead throughout the match thanks to its superior efficiency in the paint, where it shot fewer shots and scored more (50% versus 45%). 

The standout for the red-and-blacks was center Anderson Varejão, who finished the game with 21 points, one behind Jordan Theodore, the Greek point guard who scored 22 and was the best on the court. Marquinhos, with 11 points, and Davis Nesbitt, with 10, also surpassed 10 figures in the final score. 

After the Intercontinental Cup, Flamengo awaits the resumption of the NBB, on 03/01, against Botafogo, in General Severiano.
