Flamengo loses to Basquete Cearense and suffers its first defeat in the NBB Caixa

FlaBasquete suffered its first defeat in the 2016/17 NBB Caixa season. Playing at Tijuca Tênis Clube, the Pride of the Nation lost to Basquete Cearense 94-88 in an overtime match. Despite the setback, the red-and-black team remains the leader of the competition.

The Ceará team toughened the game from the start. With a balanced first quarter, Flamengo tried to impose itself, but their opponents pressed hard and used excellent defense to close the period at 22-19. However, the Pride of the Nation knew how to overcome the defense and opened a good lead in the second quarter (27-11) and closed the first half winning 49-30.

The second half began with Basquete Cearense getting their revenge. With a strong third quarter, their opponents took an 18-31 lead and took the tie into the final period. The final quarter was evenly matched (19-19), and the match ended with the score at 83-83.

In the five minutes of overtime, Basquete Cearense had the better advantage, scoring 12-15, and closing out the game. FlaBasquete's next match will be on Thursday at 20 p.m., again in Tijuca, against Vitória.
