Flamengo loses to Elite Uruguay by 89 to 81
Mais Querido finishes the NBA G-League International Challenge in fourth place
By Romulo Paranhos - inBack on the court, Flamengo lost to Elite Uruguay by 89 to 81, on Sunday afternoon (22), at Antel Arena. With the result, Rubro-Negro ended its participation in the NBA G-League International Challenge pre-season tournament.
Mengão started the first quarter well and took the lead. On defense, the Flamengos managed to block the Uruguayans' key attacking plays. When they did attack, Flamengo had good shooting efficiency and converted most of their points, increasing their lead. Flamengo had good shooting efficiency on three-pointers, preventing Elite Uruguay from closing in: 26-20 for Flamengo.
At the start of the second quarter, Mengão maintained their momentum and opened up a ten-point lead. Demétrio stood out in the match, scoring 14 points. Elite Uruguai seemed a bit lost and made many mistakes on offense, thanks to the strong red-and-black defense that left no room for them. And with a large lead on the scoreboard, Mais Querido finished the second quarter ahead: 53-44.
Flamengo started the third quarter, giving the Uruguayan team no chance to mount a comeback and keeping the game under control. In the final six minutes, Elite Uruguay improved offensively and closed the gap. But Flamengo was brave and managed to get back into the game, hitting three-pointers that helped maintain their lead. Olivinha was excellent on the offensive rebounds, grabbing almost all of them. Demétrio was excellent offensively, scoring 19 points so far. The third quarter ended 72-65 for Flamengo.
The Uruguayans came back stronger in the final quarter, closing the gap again and leaving the game open. With four minutes remaining, Elite Uruguay equalized, making the game thrilling. Flamengo gave it everything it had, fighting until the end, but couldn't prevent the Uruguayan comeback: 89-81.
With the result, Rubro-Negro ended its participation in the NBA G-League International Challenge in fourth place. This Monday (23), the squad returns to Brazil and turns its focus to the decision of the Campeonato Carioca.
