Flamengo loses to Pinheiros in the LDB
The clash marked the last match of the first part of the initial phase of the tournament
By Mariana Sa - inThis Monday (29), Flamengo lost to Pinheiros by 87 to 77 in the Brazilian Interclub Championship – Basketball Development League (LDB). The Mais Querido's top scorer was Matheus Weber, with 20 points.
As expected, the matchup between the only undefeated teams in the group was a tough one from the first quarter. Working defensively and finding space in attack, Rodrigo 'Galego's' Flamengo managed to outperform, but without opening up a big lead: 29-22. The second quarter was equally fast-paced, but Pinheiros managed to string together their plays better and went into halftime with a 50-44 lead.
The third quarter was evenly matched, with Flamengo pushing for more possession. However, their opponents also played a tense game, leading 69-58. The decision went to the final quarter, but the score remained unchanged: 87-77 for the São Paulo team.
The match marked the end of the first half of the LDB's initial phase. With the result, Rubro-Negro closes the Rio de Janeiro stage with four wins and one loss in five matches.
The teams will not play in this competition again until August 27th, when the teams from Group A face those from Group B in Osasco or São Paulo. At the end of the competition, the top eight teams will secure a spot in the final stage.
