Flamengo pays tribute to Varejão
Marcelinho delivers personalized red and black jersey to the pivot
By Basketball Press Office - inRecently, Anderson Varejão confessed to being a die-hard Flamengo fan. Upon learning of the Cleveland Cavaliers center's preference, the Flamengo board decided to pay tribute to the player. And it was precisely captain Marcelinho, his Brazilian national team teammate, who presented him with a personalized jersey bearing the number 17.
\The meeting, at the hotel where the Brazilian national team is staying, was quick and quite relaxed. Happy with the gift, Anderson donned the jersey and joked with his friend and the club's basketball director, Arnaldo Szpiro, that he would trade Ohio for Rio de Janeiro if Flamengo's offer matched Cleveland's.
\Laughing, Arnaldo said he would think about it while Marcelinho made a point of provoking Varejão:
\"I don't think there's a place for you here, we're well served with pivots," Varejão joked, not even wanting to hear about Marcelinho's provocation.
\"It suited me well. Imagine me playing as a 4 and Baby as a 5? That team would be good, wouldn't it? But who knows, maybe one day," laughed Varejão, thanking him once again for the gift.
