After six away matches (three in the Liga das Américas and three in the NBB), Flamengo meets its fans again this Wednesday (February 16.02th) at the HSBC Arena in Barra. In a game valid for the second round of the Novo Basquete Brasil, the red-and-black team faces Araraquara, at 20 pm. In the first round, in the interior of São Paulo, Flamengo won 99 x 86. Tickets cost R$ 20. Students, with student ID, pay half price.
Flamengo is second in the overall standings, with 11 wins in 15 games (73,33% success rate). Pinheiros remains in the lead with the same number of losses as Flamengo, but with two more games and, therefore, a better success rate (76,47%). Later this week, the Rubro-negro will have two more challenges in Rio: Friday (February 18.02), against Assis, at 20 pm, and Sunday (February 20.02), against Bauru, at noon. Both games will be at the HSBC Arena.
After five straight losses (three in the Liga das Américas and two in the NBB), Flamengo is on a two-game winning streak, against Vila Velha and Vitória, respectively, last week. Meanwhile, Araraquara, in 12th place with four wins in 16 games, lost to Uberlândia in the last round.
"The team suffered from fatigue due to so many games and consecutive trips. This fatigue ended up being reflected on the court. But I think now the team has learned to play with this fatigue and we will take advantage of the fact that we are playing at home to maintain this winning streak," said the red-and-black coach Gonzalo Garcia, remembering that the team returned from Mexico, from the Liga das Américas, and traveled the next day to Belo Horizonte, following up with games in Espírito Santo: "We didn't have time to rest," he added.
After just over a month in charge of the team, the Argentine believes the team has already become accustomed to his style of work. "But we still need time to fine-tune some of the moves," he stated.
Regarding the Araraquara team, Gonzalo issued a warning. "They're a team with a lot of energy, and that makes the game difficult. Araraquara has good shooters and a great point guard. Our team will have to defend well and show its offensive prowess," said the coach.
For Wednesday's match, the team will still be without power forward/center Jefferson, who is recovering from an adductor injury in his right thigh. He is expected to return to the court for the match against Brasília on the 23rd in Brasília. American forward David Teague, meanwhile, is doubtful. He fell in the last game in Vitória, hit his back on the backboard, and is still experiencing some pain.
