Flamengo qualifies first for the Final Four

Flamengo secured first place in the group by beating Peñarol 88-86 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, this Sunday (01.03). Qualified for the Final Four after beating Trotamundos on Saturday (28.02)Flabasquete opened up a lead of more than twenty points but saw their opponents rally. In the end, the red-and-blacks won thanks to a decisive block by Jerome Meyinse and a sublime performance by Laprovittola in the final minutes. The Liga das Américas Final Four will take place from March 14th to 15th, with no set venue. 

With this result, Mais Querido faces Mexico's Pioneros de Quintana Roo for a spot in the final, battling for their second championship title. Laprovittola was Flamengo's top scorer with 18 points and three assists. 

The game
The game started evenly. Laprovittola and Olivinha excelled, helping Flamengo close out the first quarter 22-17. In the second half, it was Herrmann's turn to step up and help Flamengo overcome the Argentine team in a tight quarter. At halftime, Flamengo went into the locker room with a 45-30 lead.

In the third quarter, Peñarol's lead reached 22 points, leading 69-52 into the final period. In the final quarter, Peñarol rallied, closing the 17-point deficit to just one in the final minutes. Just when a comeback seemed imminent, Jerome Meyinse prevented the comeback with a flawless block. But it was Laprovittola who secured the victory. With a drive, he made it 83-80 and, after the tie, managed to score a shot to close the score at 88-86.
