Soon, Flamengo will have the opportunity to win another world title. Between February 15th and 17th, Arena Carioca 1 will host the 2019 FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup. The tournament will feature the American team Austin Spurs, the current G-League champion; AEK (Greece), winner of the Basketball Champions League; and San Lorenzo, the defending champion of the League of the Americas. The Rubro-Negro joins the table as the last Brazilian team to win both the League of the Americas and the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup, both in 2014.

The championship will be played in two semifinals, held on the 15th. The winners will qualify for the grand final, on the 17th, the same date as the third-place playoff. 

Andreas Zagklis, FIBA ​​Secretary General, thanked the club for all its collaboration in holding the Intercontinental.

"We are thrilled to bring the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup back to the Americas and celebrate this edition on the excellent Olympic basketball court in Rio de Janeiro, which hosted so many great moments during the 2016 Games. The champions of the FIBA ​​Americas League and the Basketball Champions League will battle it out here and try to create their own lasting memories. I would also like to express my gratitude to the city of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Basketball Federation, the national league and the host club, Flamengo, for their collaboration," he said. 

For coach Gustavo De Conti, Flamengo's participation is a source of pride for the team and the fans. It also becomes the team's biggest goal for 2019.

"We are very happy to participate in another Intercontinental and to have the opportunity to play against some of the world's greatest teams. This format has everything it needs to succeed and grow in the coming years. Flamengo is very proud and honored to be able to compete in the championship, especially playing in Rio. We will prepare ourselves in the best way possible and try to win this title with all our strength, because, without a doubt, it is the most important championship we will compete in this season." 

Flamengo's first game will be on February 15th at 02:21 PM, against Austin Spurs in the second leg. At 30 PM, San Lorenzo and AEK will decide the other spot in the final. Ticket and broadcast information will be released later.
