Leandrinho's farewell to Flamengo was just the way the star wanted: with a victory and a stellar performance. With 24 points from the player (top scorer of the match), the Rubro-negro easily cruised past the Liga Sorocabana 93-55 on Saturday night (December 03.12) at Tijuca Tênis Clube, remaining top of the NBB 4 standings with five wins in six games. Flamengo's next challenge will be on Thursday (December 08.12) against Joinville at 20 p.m. away from home.
It was Leandrinho's last game for Flamengo before the NBA season kicked off. With the end of the American League strike, the player will have to return to the Toronto Raptors, the team with which he is under contract. But the star made it clear that the "goodbye" may just be a "see you soon."
"Wearing the Flamengo jersey has a different flavor. And I want to have the pleasure of feeling that again. I don't know what will happen, how Toronto is doing, or how the NBA season will be. But my heart is already saved for Flamengo," he said.
One of the most emotional moments occurred at the end of the match. Leandrinho received a painting of the number 28 jersey he wore during his time with the club from Flamengo President Patrícia Amorim. The painting included a plaque that read: "Clube de Regatas do Flamengo thanks player Leandro Barbosa for joining its gallery of stars and honoring the red-and-black jersey during his time in Brazil in 2011." Leandrinho also received a plaque from the National Basketball League.
"We have plans for him to come back and help Flamengo in the finals. We'll see how Toronto's season goes," said Patrícia Amorim.
Cheered on by the fans who filled the Tijuca stadium, Leandrinho thanked them for their affection:
"I don't even have words to thank this crowd. I was welcomed with open arms and I will never forget the affection I received here. It will stay in my memory forever. It was a very special and happy moment in my career," he said.
Leandrinho played 15 games for Flamengo: four friendlies (Brasília, Uberlândia (2) and Tijuca); two in the State Championship (finals against Tijuca); three in the South American League (UTE, Boston College and Atenas); and six in the NBB (Paulistano, Pinheiros, Minas, Brasília, Bauru and Liga Sorocabana). There were 13 victories, one title (seven state titles), a spot in the hexagonal of the South American League and the leadership of the NBB.
