In a thrilling game, decided in the final minutes, Flamengo got revenge on Franca for their first-round defeat and won 80-75 on Tuesday night (15.03) at Tijuca Tênis Clube. With the result, the red-and-black team returned to the top of the NBB (Novo Basquete Brasil), tied with Pinheiros. The two teams have 17 wins in 23 games (73,91% success rate), but the São Paulo team has the advantage in the head-to-head record (they won both matches).

Flamengo returns to the court on Friday (18.03), at 20 pm, against Minas, at Tijuca Tênis Clube. In Tuesday's game, Marcelinho was the top scorer with 24 points. Teichmann had a double-double: 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Encouraged by the fans, Flamengo was the better team throughout the first half. The first quarter was evenly matched, ending 22-18 for the red-and-black team. In the second quarter, Flamengo opened up a 12-point lead (38-24), but Franca fought back and scored 11 straight points. Even so, Flamengo went into halftime leading 38-35.

After halftime, the Gávea quintet once again dominated the match. Their lead reached 13 points (58-45), and the quarter ended 63-53 for Flamengo. In the final quarter, however, Franca took the lead and turned the score around to 75-74. But with two three-pointers in the final minute—one by Marcelinho and another by Teichmann—Flamengo won 80-75.

"We made a mistake, we gave Franca space and let them get closer. But what's important is that we had the calmness to find a way to win the game," said Marcelinho.

Coach Gonzalo Garcia stated that Flamengo is now a more mature team, but there is still work to be done.

"We lost control of the game and the defense struggled. But our team is more mature and we have to work game by game. There's still a long way to go before the playoffs," said the coach.

Flamengo started with: Marcelinho (24), Helio (12), Duda (12), Teichmann (11) and Bábby (12). Entered: Fred (-), Teague (2), Jefferson (3), Guto (-), Átila (4) and Wagner (-).
