Flamengo lived up to expectations and won its second game in the 2009/2010 New Basketball Brazil season. And the task was even easier than expected. With a blistering start and excellent three-point shooting, coach Paulo Chupeta's team comfortably defeated Saldanha da Gama on Friday night at the HSBC Arena. Teichmann scored 28 points and led the Flamengo to a 109-72 victory. Now, Mengão will only play again in the NBB on November 15th, against Joinville, in Santa Catarina.

The first quarter for the red-and-blacks was practically perfect. As usual, coach Paulo Chupeta's team started the game at 200 km/h. Pressing hard and with excellent three-point shooting, Marcelinho and company gave Saldanha no chance. The standout performer was point guard Hélio. Perfect from the three-point line, with three made shots on three attempts, the number 5 totaled 11 points and, single-handedly, scored more than the Espírito Santo team in the first quarter, which ended with the red-and-blacks leading 36-9.

The easier-than-expected victory led to a natural relaxation for the Gávea team in the second quarter. The visitors took advantage to showcase their attacking prowess, reaching 36 points. However, Flamengo's offensive system continued to score, even with the substitutions made by coach Chupeta. Led by the trio of Hélio, Marcelinho, and Teichmann (together they scored 37 points), Mengão went into the locker room leading 60-36.

In the third quarter, Flamengo started strong, taking a 15-0 lead in just over three minutes. Teichmann, Marcelinho, and Hélio continued to dominate the game, scoring 16, 16, and 18 points, respectively. By the fifth minute, Flamengo was winning the period 20-1 and the game 80-37. After that, the Espírito Santo team managed to cut into Flamengo's advantage a bit, but failed to threaten Mengão's comfortable lead, which ended the quarter ahead 95-53. 

With the victory already assured, the Gávea team didn't even have to put in much effort in the final quarter to close out the game 109-72, with Teichmann scoring 28 points and celebrating the result. "We managed the game well. We were shorthanded, but we managed to play well, and this proved that our group is strong, even with the absences. We deserve congratulations," he said.
