FlaBasquete edged out Botafogo in the semifinal playoff of the State Basketball Championship. Playing at home at Tijuca Tênis Clube, the Orgulho da Nação (Nation's Pride) put on a better performance, winning 79-69. Now, the teams will face each other again on Wednesday at 20 p.m. at the same venue, with the home team playing at home. With another victory, Mengão secures a spot in the final.

The game started off tough, with Botafogo leading the scoreboard, but with a narrow advantage. Little by little, José Neto's men began to gain some momentum, and the first ten minutes ended 18-15 in favor of the opponent.

In the second quarter, Botafogo was dominated by Flamengo, who opened up a lead throughout the period and the match. With a more consistent performance, Flamengo scored 17-12.

The third period was decisive for the match. Consistent, Flamengo relied on strong performances from Marquinhos and JP Bastista, the team's top scorers in the match, to open up a nine-point lead in the period (26-17) and secure victory with a solid final quarter, which the opponent won by just one point.

"We started the game feeling a bit (the temperature), but in the third quarter we gave it an extra boost and opened up a good lead," analyzed JP Bastista.

For Marquinhos, coach José Neto was fundamental in changing the game's strategy.

"The team was a bit stuck in their defense, but from the third quarter onwards, Neto got things sorted out and we were able to score shots more easily, it flowed more. The most important thing was to come away with the victory," he concluded.

The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsor Estácio, in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
