The first game of the second round of the State Basketball Championship was marked by two big debuts: Marcelinho Machado and Federico Kammerichs. The two players, who recently played in the Pre-Olympic tournament in Mar del Plata for the Brazilian and Argentine national teams, respectively, helped Flamengo defeat Macaé, 94-57, on Friday night (September 23.09), in Gávea. The game's top scorer was David Jackson, with 32 points. With the result, Flamengo remains undefeated in the championship. Their next opponent will be Tijuca, next Monday (September 25.09), at 19 pm, also in Gávea.
Macaé started motivated and took the lead early in the game. Flamengo, however, didn't let it slide, organizing their defense and managing to level the score, finishing the first quarter just one point behind their opponent (23-24). The comeback continued, and early in the second half, David Jackson converted a three-pointer to put the Red-Blacks in the lead. The team from Gávea imposed their rhythm and went into the locker room with an 11-point lead (45-34).
After halftime, Flamengo simply managed to keep the deficit at bay. Despite Macaé's persistent drive and three-pointers, Flamengo didn't let themselves be threatened and responded with Teichmann's rebounds and Jackson and Guto's counterattacks.
The fourth and final quarter was marked by debuts. Team captain Marcelinho Machado entered the court early, with the team leading 67-48, and unceremoniously displayed his specialty: a stunning three-pointer. This season's Argentine signing, Federico Kammerichs, entered next, to a standing ovation from the fans who showed up and supported the team at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium. At the end of the match, both players expressed satisfaction with their performances.
"I thought the game was good. At the start of the season, it's normal for performances to fluctuate, with ups and downs, but I believe we're on the right track. I'm pleased with the result," said captain Marcelinho.
"I'm happy. I was happy with the opportunity to play these final minutes and help Flamengo. I arrived yesterday and was able to play today. This is good because I can gradually get back into my game rhythm and get to know my new teammates better," revealed Kammerichs.
