Flamengo defeats Minas and is in the final of the CBI U-18
Gávea's children grew in the second half with a good defensive performance and will now compete for the title
By Rafael Rezende - inOn Friday night (23), Flamengo beat Minas, 59x42, and secured a place in the grand final of the Brazilian Interclub Championship Sub-18.
In a match held at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium, the Red-Blacks showed composure in key moments and were able to neutralize their opponent's strengths. Until halftime, Rodrigo Galego's team was leading by just one point: 28-27. Afterward, they improved their defense, opened up a lead, and controlled the result.
For the coach, the group continues to evolve and is ready to seek the trophy:
"It was a great victory against a team that is one of the biggest centers of development in Brazilian basketball. Our team performed very well and has been improving. We are motivated to participate in the final, our biggest goal in the competition. We will play at home, with the fans in attendance, and we believe in winning the title."
The standout performer in the triumph was power forward Ruan Michel, with 23 points and 16 rebounds, followed by Matheus Maciel, with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Joãozinho, who scored 10 points, was also crucial.
In an interview with the official website, the top scorer of the match highlighted the positive points and said that there will be no lack of commitment in the decision:
"We studied Minas, and we were dominant throughout the game. We made some mistakes, lost some silly balls, but we managed to come away with the victory. We don't know who our opponent will be in the final, but we're going all out."
In the grand final, the Crias da Gávea will face Palmeiras, on Saturday, at 20:15 pm, at the Tijuca Tennis Club.
