Flamengo defeats Pinheiros and becomes undefeated champion of the Brazilian Under-21 Interclub Championship
Gávea kids play a great game and win the competition for the first time in history
By Rafael Rezende - inOn Sunday night (15), Flamengo played a very good game against Pinheiros, winning 78-74, and becoming undefeated champion of the Brazilian Interclub Championship Under-21! In Uberlândia, at the Praia Clube gymnasium, the Mais Querido only fell behind at the beginning. Then, with a strong defense and a powerful attack, the team took the lead and held it until the end. An exciting and indisputable victory!
The standouts were Matheusinho (17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists), Ruan (16 points and 8 rebounds), Rafael Rachel (12 points and 10 rebounds), and Matheus Weber (13 points). The number 10 point guard, who shone in the decisive moments, was named MVP. Gabriel Andrade, Jonathan 'Baby' Ferreira, and Rafael Passoni came off the bench and were instrumental in building the score, especially defensively.
The victory crowns a spectacular campaign for the Crias da Gávea. With seven wins in seven games, the boys demonstrated great maturity throughout the competition. In every match, it was clear how well the team knows each other and how well they gel. Coach Rodrigo Galego, who arrived at the club in 2019 and led the team to runner-up finishes, is largely responsible for this success. Studious and focused, he identified some weaknesses in the qualifying phase and managed to turn them into positives in the playoffs with the support of his assistant coach, Ígor Meletti.
Given all this, the final result couldn't have been any different. The red-and-black youth academy begins 2020 with a crucial title on the national stage!
