Flamengo defeats Tijuca and advances in the State Championship
On the return of coach Gonzalo Garcia, the red-black team beats its opponent away from home

Flamengo defeated Tijuca 74-47 in the match that marked the return of coach Gonzalo Garcia to the Rubro-Negro command this season. In the game held on Monday night (19.09), in Tijuca, for the second round of the State Championship, the red-blacks' top scorers, with 14 points each, were the American David Jackson and the power forward Teichmann.
The game started very evenly, with the first quarter being a close affair, ending in an 18-18 tie. In the second quarter, the game remained tight, with both teams varying their lead. Flamengo, however, showed superiority and went into the locker room with a three-point lead: 36-33.
In the third quarter, Flamengo prevailed and opened up a healthy lead with beautiful plays from David Jackson and Teichmann. Tijuca tried to fight back, but the Flamengo defense held its own, preventing the opponent from getting closer, finishing 57-41. In the final period, Flamengo dominated. With good steals and a focused approach, the team from Gávea gave the home team no chance, settling the final score at 74-47.
Despite the good result, coach Gonzalo Garcia still believes that the team can improve until the National.
"This is the team's second game and we still have inaccuracies that we will work on. This championship will help us improve these small flaws so that we can reach 100% in the NBB," he said.
Flamengo's next game will be against Macae, on Wednesday (21.09), at 19pm, at the opponent's home.
