After playing three friendlies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Flamengo basketball team returns to the Rio de Janeiro courts for the second round of the State Championship. The Rubro-Negro faces Riachuelo this Monday (October 15.10th) at 18 p.m. at the Tijuca Tennis Club. Admission is free.
In the first round, the Gávea team won all three of its matches: 134-39 over Riachuelo; 90-49 over Botafogo; and 99-61 over Tijuca. Now, the goal is to maintain its unbeaten streak en route to its eighth state championship.
Flamengo is using the competition as preparation for the first phase of the South American League, from October 23 to 25, and for the NBB, starting in November. The team also played four friendlies. In the first of these, they beat Brasília on October 03, in Tijuca: 91-83. Then, in Buenos Aires, they were defeated by Boca Juniors (76-68), Lanús (77-73) and Vélez (95-65).
"We're preparing well. We played three tough games in Buenos Aires, which helped us identify some flaws that still need to be addressed. Now, we have three more matches in the State Championship before our debut in the South American League, and we'll be able to try out new plays," said coach José Neto.
Flamengo's debut in the first phase of the South American League will be against Hebraica (URU), on October 23.10. Then, Fla faces Deportes Castro (CHI), on October 24.10, and Peñarol (ARG), on October 25.10. The games will be in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
