Flamengo pauses NBB competition to travel to Quito, Ecuador; debut in the continental competition is against Capitanes de Arecibo

After playing 24 qualifying matches for the sixth edition of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB), it's time for Flamengo to turn things around and focus on the League of the Americas. A member of Group D of the competition, the Mais Querido begins the first phase next Friday (February 14.02), at 21 pm, against Capitanes de Arecibo, from Puerto Rico.
In the first phase of the Liga das Américas, each group plays its matches in a single country. Flamengo's group is based in Quito, Ecuador, where José Neto's squad will also face the home team Mavort and Leones de Quilpué of Chile in single matches. The top two teams in each group advance to the second phase, which will be held from February 28th to March 9th, with the venue yet to be determined.
The Flamengo squad will travel to Ecuador next Wednesday (February 12.02). Olivinha believes Flamengo won't have easy matches, but the team is prepared. "Our group isn't easy. Last year, we played against Mavort and lost. There's also the team from Puerto Rico, which always comes out strong and is quite traditional. So, we have to be very careful with these teams to come out of there with qualification. We're working hard for that," he said.
Flamengo's three games in Quito will be played on consecutive days: February 14, 15, and 16. On the 17th, the squad will return to Brazil and will have to refocus on the NBB. On February 27, the Mais Querido will return to the courts to face São José as a visitor.
