A standout player from FlaBasquete's youth academy, Gabriel Landeira, a U-14 and U-15 athlete, will participate in the inaugural NBA Junior World Championship. Held from August 7th to 12th in Orlando, USA, the tournament will welcome more than 300 young people from 35 countries, ages 13 and 14. Gabriel will be the only player from Rio de Janeiro state and one of five Brazilians in the event. Along with the representatives from Argentina and Uruguay, Landeira will represent one of the South American national teams. 

Dwyane Wade, Andre Drummond, Brook Lopez, Grant Hill, and Tamila Catchings will be some of the stars who will be present at the event and will share experiences with participants.

On the Official Website, Gabriel Landeira spoke about his expectations of participating in a championship of this size and the lessons he will bring to his daily life defending the Sacred Mantle.

"From this experience, I hope to grow as an athlete, meet players from all over the world, improve my English, and bring experience to other championships and games," said Landeira, who added that he was pleased to see Mais Querido's participation in the tournament.

"Flamengo gave me a great opportunity to reach the level of this championship. The gInásio is very good, we have a gym twice a week, all training sessions are supervised by excellent coaches and it gives us the opportunity to compete in championships with the best teams in Brazil," said Gabriel. 

Gabriel leaves for the United States this Friday (03). Last Wednesday (01), the red-black was one of the highlights of Mais Querido's victory over Vasco in the State Championship for the Under-14 category.

The Flamengo Regatas basketball teams receive funding from their sponsors – Thinkseg, TIM, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and the State Incentive Law/Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Sports, Recreation, and Youth (Seelje), as well as support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) through the decentralization of funds from the Pelé Law. The Flamengo Guardian Angel Project, a personal tax transfer, benefits all Olympic sports of the club.
