Boys come from far away in search of a dream
Gaucho faced 40 hours on the road to participate in Flamengo's basketball tryouts

Of the 171 boys enrolled in Flamengo's basketball tryouts, 117 still dream of wearing the red and black jersey in 2010.
From Amazonas to Rio Grande do Sul, boys aged 12 to 17 ignored the heat of over 40 degrees on the second day of tests in Gávea and trained hard in an attempt to convince the coaches that they can wear the Flamengo shirt.
At 14 years old, Guilherme Emer, from Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, is one of the players who has attracted the most attention in tryouts. A member of the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS), the winger, who doesn't seem to mind traveling more than 40 hours by car with his father, Junior, and mother, Simone, in pursuit of his dream of playing for a major club, has displayed the same personality as his idol, Oscar Schimdt.
"I think I'm training well and I'm very hopeful of being one of those selected on Thursday. I hope to have the chance to play for Flamengo and live in Rio de Janeiro," said Guilherme.
Like Fred on the first day of tryouts, point guard Hélio also showed up to support the youngsters. Discovered in high school, Hélio stated that he had never participated in a tryout before starting his career at Tijuca. Skilled and one of the leaders of the current two-time Brazilian champions, the player praised Flamengo's initiative and asserted that the club's first national tryout has everything it needs to reveal future red-and-black stars.
"I thought this initiative was sensational and I think Flamengo should do this every year. I saw several talented kids with the potential to wear the Flamengo shirt in the youth teams," said Hélio.
