Flamengo agrees to keep Argentine coach for another season

Flamengo has agreed to keep Argentine coach Gonzalo Garcia for another season. The 43-year-old took over the team in January, with the season already underway.
"We decided to continue the work we started in January 2011, with the tournaments already underway. Now, Gonzalo will have the opportunity to carry out his work from the beginning of the season and will also contribute to the team's development," said the club's vice president of Olympic Sports, Cristina Callou.
Working at clubs, Gonzalo Garcia was a three-time champion of the Argentine TNA League, leading Gimnaisa Y Esgrima and Libertad Sunchales, with whom he also won the Super 8 Tournament. Since 2004, he has been an assistant coach for the Argentine national team, having worked with Rúnben Magnano and Sérgio Hernandez (the latter during the 2006 World Cup in Japan, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and the 2010 World Cup in Turkey). In early 2011, he was invited to be an assistant coach to Julio Lamas with the Argentine national team.
"I was very happy with the confidence that Flamengo's board showed in me and my work. Now I'm very motivated to have a great season," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
