Gustavo 'Panchi' Barrera is the new point guard for FlaBasquete
Uruguayan arrives at Mais Querido after the departure of Leron Black
By Communication - Flamengo - inGustavo 'Panchi' Barrera is Flamengo's new signing for the 2019/20 season! The 34-year-old Uruguayan, who represents his country's national team, arrives at Flamengo after a stint with Astros de Jalisco in Mexico.
The point guard played for several Spanish teams early in his career. He later played for Atenas, Hebraica y Macabi, and Atletico Welcome (all Uruguayan). He also played for Venezuelan teams and, before joining Mexican basketball, played in the Argentine National League for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro, where he averaged 7.2 points and 4.7 assists per game.
In his first interview as an athlete for the club, Panchi spoke about the greatness of Mais Querido and mentioned Eloy Vargas:
"In Uruguay, Flamengo is a well-known and respected team, so I'm thrilled to be able to wear the jersey. I was lucky enough to play with Eloy Vargas in Argentina, and I'm looking forward to meeting him again. I want to take advantage of this opportunity to play for the nation. See you soon," he declared.
