Jefferson shines, but won't make it to the Three-Point Contest final

The red-black winger scores 19 points in the first and second phases, but is left out of the final in Uberlândia

The Novo Basquete Brasil all-star weekend kicked off in full swing in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The first event this Saturday afternoon was the Three-Point Shooting Tournament, which brought together the players with the best performance in this field in the competition. Flamengo's representative was winger Jefferson William, who performed well but ended up missing the final.

In the first stage, with one representative for each of the 12 NBB teams, Jefferson finished second, tied with Franca's point guard Helinho, with 19 points. First was Thiaguinho, Pinheiros' point guard, who scored 20. The six athletes with the highest points advanced to the next stage. The red-and-black team repeated its strong performance, once again scoring 19 points. A great mark, if not for the same Thiaguinho, from Pinheiros, and Guilherme, from Londrina.

The two point guards made history, posting the highest scores in the tournament's history, scoring 22 points. Since only the first- and second-place teams would advance to the final, Jefferson was left out. However, while the second phase was encouraging, the final stage yielded underwhelming results. Guilherme struggled, scoring only 13 points, making things easier for Thiaguinho, who, with 18, won the tournament.

Sponsorship: For the first time, Banco BMG has printed its brand on the red-and-black basketball jersey. The sponsorship deal, signed last week, also covers the sleeves of the football jersey. BMG is the basketball's master sponsor and prints its brand on the chest and back of the red-and-black uniform. Jefferson wore the number one jersey in the competition.
