Last Thursday (5), Anderson Varejão, Ronald Ramon, Wesley Mogi and Matheus Brito, from FlaBasquete, visited the Rio de Janeiro Institute of Ophthalmology to undergo eye exams. Flamengo athletes benefit from the partnership between the club, through CUIDAR (Unified Center for Identification and Development of Performance Athletes), and IORJ, which began in June 2017. The pioneering project in Brazilian sport aims to improve sports performance, taking care of the eye health of athletes in the youth and professional categories of Olympic sports.

Since the project's inception, 83 Flamengo fans have benefited. Basketball, gymnastics, swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, judo, volleyball, and rowing are the Olympic sports involved. Ophthalmological exams include tonometry (eye pressure), visual acuity, refraction, corneal topography, retinal mapping, and visual field. 

"The CRF-CUIDAR and IORJ partnership guarantees athletes eye health monitoring, which allows us to identify potential ophthalmological problems and improve their visual performance. In high-performance sports, evaluating and training vision is essential to improving athletic performance," said Dr. Gustavo Bonfadini, IORJ partner and project coordinator.

It was Varejão, Ramon, Mogi and Matheuzinho's first appointment at IORJ through CUIDAR.
