Players regret refereeing mistakes

The numbers leave no doubt: the refereeing of the second match between Flamengo and Brasília in the Novo Basquete Brasil 2010 final was much stricter with the red-and-blacks than with the home team. Brasília shot 40 free throws in the game, while Flamengo only 14. The Brasília team committed 20 fouls, while the Rio team committed 33. For this reason, the Flamengo players and coaching staff lamented the referees' standards.
For coach Paulo Chupeta, this factor ended up taking some of his team's concentration away, especially in the second half. Despite this, the coach believes Flamengo has every chance of winning the third match on Sunday and returning to Rio de Janeiro needing only a victory to be crowned champion.
"The defeat had two halves. In the first, without complaining about the refereeing, the game was better. But in the second, they started hanging our pivots, Alírio got injured and I had to change players constantly, which ended up complicating things. I think the players were irritated, which is normal, because the refereeing made a lot of mistakes. Even so, we proved we're strong. Winning away from home has never been a problem for this group, and we can win here on Sunday," said the red-and-black manager.
For point guard Duda, neither the next game in Brasília nor the one at HSBC Arena will be easy. Both will be as evenly matched as the first two, and it's up to Flamengo to maintain its momentum to win the title.
"These were two similar games. Both teams had their moments to open up a lead, and that happens in the playoffs. The same thing will happen on Sunday. We have to go in with the same drive. We never give up, and that was clear today. We were down 11 points with less than four minutes left, and we fought back. On Sunday, we'll go strong to get the win and decide the title in Rio de Janeiro," he said.
