In June 2012, the birthday boy of this Monday (16.03) arrived at Flamengo to make history and take the red-and-black team to the top of the world. José Neto was hired as the new coach of the basketball team and arrived at the Gávea headquarters after managing the Brazilian National Team in the South American Championship that year. Since then, he has spent almost three years at the helm of the Pride of the Nation and has an enviable resume commanding the red-and-black stars.

"On my birthday, the greatest gift I can receive is, after another season with Flamengo, being with the Red-Black Nation. This is very important to us. Furthermore, being close to my family, who are already part of this Nation. This makes me even happier and more motivated to work here," said Neto.

At just 44 years old, the coach has achieved remarkable results with the club. He was a three-time Rio de Janeiro state champion (2012, 2013, and 2014), a two-time NBB champion (2013 and 2014), a League of the Americas champion (2014), and a champion of the Intercontinental Cup (2014), the club world championship. On the court, the coach—dedicated and knowledgeable about the sport—clearly emphasizes his commitment to marking and teamwork. These virtues, along with the squad he manages, along with the coaching staff, have led FlaBasquete to win every possible title and become the first Latin American team to be invited to the NBA preseason, the world's largest basketball league.

Today, in addition to managing Flamengo, José Neto also serves as assistant coach for the Brazilian Men's Adult Team and the New Men's Team.
