José Neto praises the strength of his squad in a press conference in Gávea
Coach points to collective play as the main asset for the NBB final
By Communication - Official Club Website - inThe season's biggest moment is approaching. This Saturday, at 10 a.m., at the HSBC Arena, Flamengo and Uberlândia face off in the grand final of the Novo Basquete Brasil. On Friday afternoon (May 31.05), in a press conference at the Gávea headquarters, José Neto praised the strength of the squad he has under his belt, highlighting this as Flamengo's main strength. The Flamengo coach was accompanied by Cassio Roque, president of the National Basketball League; Hélio Rubens, coach of Uberlândia; Robert Day, a player for Uberlândia; and Marquinhos, a winger for the Mais Querido.
"A team sport is decided collectively. Marquinhos stands out offensively, but the whole team works for him to achieve that. He has a lot of playing time because the other players work hard to help him. Flamengo and Uberlândia are offensive teams, and we have to neutralize their attacking momentum. The best team will win, not the one with the best players," said José Neto.
Marquinhos, highly praised by José Neto, turns 29 this Friday. The player was already a Brazilian champion and hopes to receive a nice birthday present tomorrow: the NBB trophy. "I was very young when I won the championship with Bauru in 2002. Today, for me, it's very gratifying to be in the final because I had a very good season. I'm also very happy to be nominated for the awards for best winger and best player of the championship."
Tickets for this Saturday's game are sold out, and Flamengo fans are promising an even greater show than the one they put on in the semifinals against São José. For the first time this season, the HSBC Arena will be literally packed. If on the court, the strength of the group is Flamengo's main asset, off the field, the power of the nation's encouragement is the red-and-black's greatest strength.
"Anyone who's been to Flamengo's games since the beginning knows how powerful the fans are. That's why we wanted to be in the best position possible in the first phase to play as many games as possible at home. The fans are amazing for us. It's an exchange of energy, and the time has come to harness the strength the nation gives us," said José Neto.
