The first day of the II National Basketball Selection brought together 87 young athletes from all over Brazil, born between 1994 and 1998, this Monday (16.01), at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium, in Gávea. The event also had the presence of the adult team players David Jackson, Fred and Wagner, who interacted with the boys and will help in the final selection.

The young players will undergo two more days of testing with Paulo Chupeta, the coordinator of the youth teams and coach of the U-21 team, and with the coaches of the U-14, children's, junior and youth teams. On Wednesday (January 18.01), the last day of the selection process, the chosen players will be announced immediately after each test.

"All the coaches are watching the tryouts to see which athletes can meet the needs of each team in the red-and-black youth academy. On this first day, the boys are still a little nervous and intimidated, but I believe we'll discover great talent here," explained Paulo Chupeta.

Point guard Fred gave tips to new players and recalled the beginning of his career:

"I also went through a selection process when I was a kid, in Niterói. At that time, each person's psychological state is very important. The boys need to overcome their nervousness to show what they can do," said the player.

Today's tryouts begin at 13:30 p.m., with players born in 1998 (U-14) and 1997 (U-15). Players Kammerichs, Hélio and Átila will participate in the tryouts for those born in 1994 (U-18), starting at 16:45 p.m.
