This Tuesday, the National Basketball League announced the teams that will take the court for the All-Star Game on February 21st, at 10:30 a.m., at the Tancredo Neves Gymnasium (known as Sabiazinho) in Uberlândia. One of them is a name that is part of Flamengo's basketball history: Togo Renan Soares, better known as Kanela.

Born in João Pessoa on May 22, 1906, and died on December 12, 1992, he began his career as a water polo and soccer player. But it was as a basketball coach that he made his name.

Kanela managed Flamengo from 1948 to 1970, winning 12 editions of the Campeonato Carioca. With the Brazilian national team, he won world titles in 1959 and 1963, as well as a bronze medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He led Brazil to runner-up finishes in 1955 and 1970.

Kanela will name the A team, which will be represented by: the point guards Fúlvio (São José), Fernando Penna (Paulistano) and Manteguinha (Joinville); the wings Marcelinho (Flamengo), Thomas (Assis), Rogério (Franca), Guilherme Filipin (Londrina) and Alex (Bauru); and the pivots Murilo (Minas), Olivinha (Pinheiros), Deivisson (Araraquara) and Rafael Mineiro (São José).

The other team, named Pedroca, will have the following formation: point guards Larry (Bauru), Valtinho (Universo) and Sucatzky (Minas); forwards Alex (Universo), Shamell (Pinheiros), Tony Stockman (Franca) and Jefferson Sobral (Joinville); and pivots Guilherme Giovannoni (Universo), Baby (Paulistano), Tiagão (Joinville), Shilton (Joinville) and Estevam (Universo).

So far, the LNB website has received over 24 votes for the starting lineups for the NBB All-Star Game. If voting ended today, Team Kanela would consist of point guard Manteguinha (Joinville), forwards Marcelinho (Flamengo) and Guilherme (Londrina), and centers Murilo (Minas Gerais) and Olivinha (Pinheiros). Team B would have a starting five consisting of point guard Valtinho (Universo), forwards Alex (Universo) and Shamell (Pinheiros), and centers Baby (Paulistano) and Guilherme Giovannoni (Universo).

The 2010 NBB All-Star Game will be held in Uberlândia on February 20th and 21st. The public can vote on which players will be the starters for Teams Kanela and Pedroca through the event's website: www.liganacionaldebasquete.com.br/jogodasestrelas. Voting will be open until Wednesday, February 17th.
