At the party that brought together the country's biggest basketball names, Flamengo's only representative was its most brilliant player. Flamengo forward Marcelinho Machado performed brilliantly in the All-Star Game. With 38 points, he was the top scorer in Kanela's 127-114 victory over Pedroca.
Marcelinho played for the winning team, Kanela, led by coach Lula Ferreira, from Universo/BRB/Financeira Brasília. The team included players such as point guard Manteguinha (Ciser/Araldite/Univille/Joinville), forward Guilherme Filipin (Campos do Conde/Sercomtel/Londrina), centers Murilo (Pitágoras/Minas) and Olivinha (Pinheiros/Sky), among others.
The Pedroca team, led by coach Alberto Bial, from Joinville, had point guard Valtinho (Universo/Brasília); forwards Alex Garcia (Universo/Brasília) and Shamell (Pinheiros); and pivots Guilherme Giovannoni (Universo/Brasília) and Baby (Paulistano/Amil), among others.
Before the game, Marcelinho praised the initiative of the National Basketball League (LBN). "I think it's a really cool initiative by the League to hold an event like this, especially at this time of restructuring the sport. Although the players like to win, in this type of game, it's not the teams themselves that win. The victory belongs to Brazilian basketball," he told the LBN website.
Flamengo's next Sunday will be against the Joinville team, this Friday, February 26th, at 02 pm, at the HSBC Arena.
