Marcelinho: "I hope Fla makes it to the Final Four"

The numbers and facts don't lie: Marcelinho Machado's three-point shooting is one of the greatest assets of Flamengo's professional basketball team. Last Friday (February 21.02), he won the 3-Point Tournament during the NBB All-Star Weekend, and in the first phase of the League of the Americas, 45 of his 60 points were scored on three-pointers. When asked humbly about the importance of his long-range shooting accuracy, the point guard preferred to praise the strength of the Flamengo team.
"Our team has excellent players in all positions, each with their own characteristics. This makes the team strong. In Mexico, we will follow whatever the games demand, so we can fight for victories. I hope they happen and that Flamengo advances to the Final Four (the decisive stage of the League of the Americas), which would be unprecedented in the club's history," he said.
As the Gávea point guard mentioned, Flamengo will compete in the semifinals of the Liga das Américas in Mexico from February 28th to March 02nd. In the first phase of the competition, the "Mais Querido" (the "Most Beloved") played three games and reached the 24-point mark in all of them. In the sixth edition of the NBB, a championship in which Flamengo also currently competes, Flamengo has only surpassed 100 points in one of its XNUMX matches so far. For Marcelinho Machado, scoring as many points in the upcoming matches of the continental tournament will likely be more difficult.
"I think that due to the opponents' characteristics, the games won't be the same (in terms of points). Maybe against Cocodrilos de Caracas, we could reach something similar in terms of points as in the first phase, as they're a team that also plays at a fast pace. I think the other two games will be more in line with the standard we've been playing in the NBB," he said.
Flamengo is in Group E, which is based in the city of Veracruz. Their opponents will be Mexico's Halcones Xalapa, Brazil's Uberlândia, and Venezuela's Cocodrilos de Caracas. Flamengo will play only one game against each of their opponents.
