In the first duel between the Rio de Janeiro champions and the São Paulo champions in the knockout stage of the 2009-2010 New Basketball Brazil, the Rio de Janeiro team came out on top. Flamengo defeated São José 78-71 away from home in the first match of the best-of-five quarterfinal series and now has the opportunity to close out the competition at home, at the HSBC Arena.
The next two games take place on Sunday at 20:30 pm and Monday at 19 pm, broadcast live on SporTV. With a win in both matches, the Gávea team will advance in the competition and remain in contention for a third national championship. Marcelinho Machado, the game's top scorer with 35 points, made history again against São José.
If in the qualifying phase he broke the NBB points record, with 63 points, and also the record for the most three-pointers in a single match, with 16, this time he reached an important statistic wearing the Flamengo shirt: he reached his 4th point since arriving at Gávea in 2007.

With the red-and-black defense underperforming, the São Paulo winger had little trouble directing the home team's attacks.
