Marcelinho: "Smart play can surprise them"
The FlaBasquete captain analyzes the match against the Orlando Magic and believes that the red-black style of play could be the key to combating the physical strength of their opponents.

Regardless of the result, the match against the Orlando Magic is another victory in recognition of Flamengo's basketball prowess, as they will be the first team to host an NBA team in Brazil. Experienced and with many titles under their belt, representing the World's Most Beloved and the Brazilian National Team, captain Marcelinho Machado commented on the opponent's style of play and what the Red-Blacks can do on the court to fight for a victory.
"NBA basketball isn't that complicated to analyze. They rely heavily on the physical and individual characteristics of each player. An athlete with great explosiveness uses this in one-on-one situations; their defensive rules themselves favor this type of play. One thing we managed to surprise them with last year was this game structure, where we were able to work the ball more, create a game situation on one side of the court and develop the play elsewhere. It's a characteristic we have that's different from their style," he analyzed.
The match is a preparatory match for both teams' season, so Marcelinho believes it's difficult to predict what will be seen in the gym. But according to the player, the team's growth after such a high-stakes match is guaranteed.
"It takes time; it's a preseason game; we have new players on the team. It's difficult to predict this match; neither team has a solid understanding of how they play yet. I hope we can play a great game and that it serves as a learning experience for the season. But of course, I prefer to learn from a victory," he said.
Aware that a victory over a team from the NBA, the world's biggest basketball league, with rules different from those practiced by Flamengo, as determined by FIBA, would be a historic milestone for the red-and-black athletes, Marcelinho is banking on intelligence to deliver a 'Greek gift' to the North Americans.
"We need to play a very intelligent game to surprise them and get the win. We know how much they play physically, technically, and tactically. A victory would make our name in basketball history," he concluded.
