Another great achievement for FlaBasquete's number 4, Marcelinho Machado, but this time off the court. The shooting guard and captain of the Pride of the Nation, who has scored over ten thousand points wearing the Sacred Mantle and is the greatest idol of Flamengo basketball, received his Marketing Technologist degree from Estácio de Sá University this Tuesday. The five-time NBB champion balanced distance learning with training for the "Mais Querido" (The Most Beloved) team and secured his higher education degree at the institution, Flamengo's Olympic sports partner.

Estácio helps the club not only develop athletes, but also citizens. Besides sponsoring the club's basketball team and providing financial support to the CUIDAR project, the college offers scholarships for a wide range of programs for the Mais Querido athletes.

Marcelinho, who completed the two-and-a-half-year course at the end of 2016, commented on his decision to combine hard work on the courts with his studies.

"I always wanted to graduate. Since distance learning didn't exist and I wouldn't be able to attend in-person classes, I decided to pursue sports the year I took my college entrance exams. For me, it was a very good decision, but I always had the idea of graduating in my head. I was going to wait until I finished my career to study, but when this opportunity came up, I grabbed it. I think knowledge is essential if you want to grow, if you want to pursue any kind of profession," said the star, who also stated that graduating was a dream come true.

"I'm very happy to have received my diploma, which is the realization of a goal, a dream, and also the teachings I try to pass on to my children: that education is very important, that knowledge is very important. It's an example I'm setting for them and for the people who like me as an athlete and who follow me. This is a tip: knowledge is always very good," concluded Marcelinho.

Now graduated, the number 4 defends FlaBasquete this Thursday (12), in Belo Horizonte, against Minas Tênis Clube and, then, Brasília, this Saturday (14), in the Federal District.

The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsor Estácio, in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
