A red-and-black star, Marcelinho has established himself as the top scorer in Brazilian basketball. On Tuesday night (May 31.05st), in a ceremony held in São Paulo, he received the NBB (New Basketball Brazil) top scorer trophy. It was the fifth time – fourth consecutive – that the forward/point guard ended a season as the player with the most points in a national competition.

Top scorer in 2008, still in the old National Championship, and 2009 and 2010, in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil), Marcelinho ended the 2011 edition of the competition with 918 points in total (average of 26,2). The player was also the top scorer in the 2005 National Championship, when he played for Telemar.

"I have to share this top scorer trophy with my teammates, because this individual result only comes when the team's work is well done. Being the top scorer in a balanced and high-level championship like the NBB, which grows in competitiveness every year, is something that makes me very happy. We weren't able to fight for the title this year, but we had a good season and I'm sure the next one will be better," said Marcelinho.
