One of the biggest names in Brazilian basketball, Marcelinho Machado joined Flamengo in 2007. Since then, he's scored countless baskets, won numerous titles, and has already written his name into the club's history. Every tribute to the athlete, therefore, is more than deserved. This Friday (January 09.01th), he'll receive another one.
Clube de Regatas do Flamengo will present a plaque to the captain of the two-time Brazilian champion, six-time Rio de Janeiro champion and South American champion team for having reached the milestone of five thousand points scored wearing the Manto Sagrado. So far, he has played 198 official matches wearing the number 4, in just over three years at Gávea (he arrived in October 2007).
"I'm proud to see these numbers continue to emerge, as this is part of my contribution to the team. These milestones reinforce my connection with Flamengo. It's increasingly rare for players to identify with a team, and I'm happy to be part of the club's history," said Marcelinho during the final training session before the match.
The tribute is a surprise for the player, who is already on the court for the duel with Joinville, at Tijuca Tênis Clube, in a game that also marks the debut of coach Gonzalo García and Jefferson's 100th game.
