This Friday (11), the last two winners of the League of the Americas, Flamengo (2014) and Bauru (2015), face each other in the semifinals of this year's edition of the continental championship. It is the third consecutive time that Rubro-Negro has reached the Final Four - an unprecedented feat in the tournament.
For captain Marcelinho, the team, accustomed to decisive matches, is ready to go in search of a second championship, but knows that the opponents are tough in the race for the trophy.
"The team is prepared. We expect a very tough Final Four. The four teams that made it here are here on great merit; they truly are the strongest in the championship and have demonstrated this in the previous stages. We have a very tough semifinal, against a team that is already our NBB final rival, with the biggest investment in Brazilian basketball. It's a semifinal that feels like a final," he said.
With an enviable track record, the red-and-black team remains competitive and, according to Marcelinho, is going all out for another final.
"We know how important this tournament is. We were fortunate to win it in 2014, and everything that entails, including the opportunity to play against the European champions, as well as the trophy for the best team on the continent. Everyone is aware of how important it is for the club and for our careers. We want to seize this opportunity with all our strength and put in a great performance against Bauru," he concluded.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsors – SKY and Estácio – in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
