Marquinhos leads late comeback and Flamengo comes from behind to beat Brasília in the NBB
The red-black team returns to the court in the same gym, in Brasília, on Tuesday, against Paulistano
By Flamengo Communication - inOn Friday night (18), Flamengo entered the court at the ASCEB gym, in the Federal District, to face Brasília, in its second game of the qualifying phase of the 12th edition of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Brasília's players were on top of their three-pointers, and the home team held the lead for most of the game. But Flamengo fought back and fought back until the very end, relying on Marquinhos' decisiveness to secure an 86-81 victory.
"I was on the sidelines for much of the game, but as the game progressed, we started moving the ball better, engaging their team, and we managed to win," said the Brazilian national team's No. 11. Of the 21 points scored by the winger, who was Flamengo's top scorer in the game, 14 came in the final period.
The game
The match began with the opponent ahead, with four three-pointers converted by winger Rafa Moreira. But Flamengo didn't let themselves be discouraged and went after the result, eventually tying the score at 15-15, with American Zack Graham standing out, who entered the second quarter with four points and three rebounds. The first quarter ended with Brasília leading by six points, but Flamengo leveled the score again (30-30) before the halfway point. The home team regained the lead, but Flamengo kept close, forcing Brasília to explode three times in the first 24 seconds of attack.
Coach Gustavo De Conti's men made life difficult for the hosts, but they relied on strong individual performances from Nezinho, Rafa Moreira, and Ronald. During the third quarter, baskets and enthusiasm from Olivinha and Léo Demétrio made the difference in motivating the red-and-black team, which closed the gap and went into the final period just two points behind its rival (64-62). It was with a three-pointer from Marquinhos that Mengão took the lead for the first time in the match with eight minutes remaining (67-64). Brasília took the lead again, but, relying on the decisive power of Marquinhos, who shone in the final quarter and led the red-and-black comeback, the Mais Querido secured the victory.
Next challenge
FlaBasquete returns to action on Tuesday (22), at 19 pm, in the same gym, in Brasília, but this time as the home team. The team faces Paulistano, in the clash that pits the last two champions of the competition against each other.
