After the comprehensive 91-69 victory over Bauru in the first game of the best-of-three final series of the Novo Basquete Brasil 7 (NBB) on Tuesday (May 26.05), winger Marquinhos spoke about Flamengo's record in the playoffs of this edition of the national championship. The athlete praised the team's growth in the knockout stage.
"We've been growing in performance since the first playoff series, against São José, and that was clear. I think that, after that fifth game in the round of 16, we gained a lot of confidence and had an incredible series against Limeira," he analyzed.
The winger, who scored 15 points against Bauru, shared his impressions of the match. "We were really eager to play after a period of inactivity, following the 3-0 win over Limeira in the semifinals. And that was evident today. I think the team came out very determined offensively, obeying all of Neto's offensive and defensive rules. We were able to practice all of that on the court, and I think that was what made the difference in the game," he said.
Knowing that it's unusual for a team to win by so many points in a decisive game—especially against the best team in the qualifying round, Bauru—Marquinhos spoke about his expectations for the upcoming challenge in the final series. "(Today) was an atypical game; it's rare in a championship final to see such a big lead (19 points, reaching 30 at times). We'll have to forget today's game and start thinking about Saturday," he concluded.
After the result in the first match of the finals, at home, Flamengo was just one victory away from winning its third consecutive NBB title - and the fourth in the history of the Pride of the Nation.
