FlaBasquete is seeking its fifth Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) title this year, but at the end of the qualifying phase, it already had some reason to celebrate. In addition to leading the league and securing a spot in the quarterfinals in advance, the team broke another record in the national competition. After conceding the fewest goals last season, it finished this year's qualifying with the best defense among the 15 participating teams.
And the milestone achieved last Tuesday (29) is even more special: Flamengo broke the record for fewest points conceded in this stage of the tournament, counting all eight editions of the NBB. Coach José Neto, who has already led the team to three consecutive national titles, celebrates the achievement.
"We must praise our team for achieving an impressive defensive record in the competition for the second consecutive time. This year, something even more important happened: counting the qualifying rounds, we have the best defense in the history of the NBB. Once again, Flamengo is making its name part of Brazilian basketball history," he exclaimed.
As a top-four finisher, Rubro-Negro skips the round of 16 and advances directly to the quarterfinals. The team awaits its opponent to continue its fight for its fifth national championship.
